Mari0 [Edit Game]

Two genre defining games from completely different eras: Nintendo's Super Mario Bros. and Valve's Portal. These two games managed to give Platformers and First-Person Puzzle Games a solid place in the video game world. But what if Nintendo teamed up with Valve and recreated the famous Mario game with Portal gun mechanics? A complete from scratch recreation of Super Mario Bros. with a focus on perfectly imitating the feel the 1985 classic gave us. Then give Mario a portal gun, add puzzle game mechanics from Portal and there you go. And if that wasn't crazy enough, play 4-player coop, with everyone having their own Portal gun!

The concept is possibly the most amazing thing I have ever seen, and for sheer novelty value I highly recommend playing it, especially if you, like me, are a fan of both series. However, it turns out there may have been a reason portal was not designed as a mario-style platformer, or that mario didn't for some reason feature a portal gun (other than that the folks at nintendo hadn't even dreamt of such a thing), and that reason is simple... it doesn't work. I very quickly realised that 90 of the time, I was better off just playing the game like any other mario game, and if for some reason I felt the need to use the portal gun, well then I would probably end up firing a koopa at myself anyway. Regardless, who doesn't love the option.
